《分離する身体》は、デジタル情報テクノロジーを通して、人間の感覚し得る新しい身体のビジョンを提示する試みである。これまでの人間像は、写真のようにあくまで人の外形や表情など可視的な外形を基に表現されてきたが、《分離する身体》では、人間の内的特徴（経絡をたどる体温測定から類推する体内の活性度）を検出しながら、そのデータの持つ性格や特徴から再構築される身体を提示する。会場のインスタレーションでは、実際に観客の身体像をセンシングし、体内データから再構築された不可思議な身体構成を仮想空間上に合成することで、生理的循環と外部とのエネルギー交換による身体内外の不可視のコミュニケーションを意識化させようとする。今回、仮想空間に分離され、ヴァーチャルな触感圧によって再身体の各部を可塑的に変形できるインターフェイス「パーツ・エディター」をアートラボが独自に開発した。（阿部一直＋四方幸子）

「キヤノン・アートラボ」は、科学と芸術の融合による新たなアート領域の創造をめざす実験的な場として1990-2001年に存在したキヤノン株式会社の文化支援プログラム。アーティストとソフトウェア・エンジニアとの約10カ月のコラボレーションによりメディアアートの新作を発表、それらの多くが国内外を巡回、アップグレードも継続的に行った。実施した展覧会は、合計17（企画展10、海外から作品を招聘するプロスペクト展5、オープン・コラボレーション展1、特別展1）。その他にカタログを始めとした出版、シンポジウムやトーク、機器サポート、資金サポートなどを行なった。

“Connecting Re-Body” tries to present a new vision of body, which can be perceived through digital information technologies. Normally, an image of a human body is based on its externally visible features and/or looks as shown in photographs. In”Connecting Re-Body”, human inner characteristics (a degree of physiological activeness measured by body temperature along therapeutic points) are examined, and a body is reconstructed from characteristics of the acquired data. In the installation at the exhibition, visitors have their bodies scanned by sensors, and data from inside their bodies are reconstructed into strange body images in the virtual space. One’s physiological circulation and invisible communications of energy exchanges between inside and outside the body are brought to one' s awareness. For this exhibition, ARTLAB has originally developed “PartsEditor”, an interface to mold and transform visual body parts separated in the virtual space by pressure of a virtual touch. Canon ARTLAB (1990-2001) was the cultural support program by Canon Inc., to produce new work of media art by the collaboration between artists and Canon’s computer engineers. ARTLAB produced totally 17 exhibitions and most of the work were further upgraded and toured worldwide. Other activities; publication, symposium and talk, equipment support and financial support.
