MobLab:
2005年10月15日~11月6日、日本とドイツの若手アーティスト(MobNaut)がモバイル機器を装備したバスに同乗し、日本国内を移動するプロジェクト「MobLab」(動く実験室、Mobile技術の使用、「Mob」は群衆の意味も)を実施した。会期中は、各MobNautによるオリジナル・プロジェクトやGPSデータと接続されたブログの更新に加え、ともに旅をするプロセスでMobNaut同士のコラボレーションが試みられた。移動するバスは各地でホストセンターの企画によるMobLabイベントに接続され、地域のアーティストや人々との交流が行われた。旅の途中では予想外のハプニングが頻発、それを逆手にとり楽しんでいく強靭な想像力がMobNautを鍛えていった。

MobLabHistory：
移動するバスとモバイル技術を連携させることで、さまざまな人々が出会い、また創造的に使いこなせる実験場として2003年秋に構想した。04年に実行委員会が発足、05年2月にはベルリンのメディアフェスティバル「トランスメディアーレ」(ドイツ側のMobLabパートナー)で初の公開プレゼンテーションを実施し、5月には日独のMobNautを最終決定。05年4月よりIAMASのMobLabプロジェクトチームが情報システム開発やバスの改装を行い、10月19日よりMobNautを乗せたバスは3週間の旅に出発した。MobLabは11月初旬、無事に終着地に到着し、11月6日に終了、06年2月「トランスメディアーレ」でプロジェクト報告を行った。

MobNaut：
バスに搭乗した7名の日独のアーティスト(MobNaut)は、MobLabの核としての役割を担った。各自が情報ネットワークを駆使しながら各地域のリアリティや人々との生の出会いをとりこむライブ感あふれるプロジェクトを展開することで、都市や社会の新たな記憶を生み出していった。

Tour Schedule：
MobNautたちが乗り込んだバスは、日本の何ヵ所かのホストセンター(メディアセンターなど)へと移動し、約3週間にわたってホストや地域のアーティスト、そして人々との交流およびコラボレーションを行った。MobNautはその環境を利用したプロジェクトを発案・展開し、各ホストでは、そのセンターの方向性や地域の特徴などを考慮しつつ、MobNautおよびMobLab実行委員会と一緒にプログラムを企画、実現した。

Open Data：
MobLab期間中に記録されたバスの位置情報（GPS）、MobNautsが収録した画像、サウンド、ムービー、テキスト等のデータは、未来の創造のためのリソースとしてCreativeCommons日本法準拠版ライセンス「帰属」に準拠して公開した。

MobLab:
“MobLab” (Mobile Laboratory - “Mob” as Mobile Technology, people, moving bus) was a three-week-long project involving young artists from Japan and Germany (MobNauts) who traveled across Japan in a bus equipped with various mobile technological devices. Each of the MobNauts developed original projects, and at the same time engaged in collaborations with other MobNauts while on the road, partly accessible via Web logs connected with GPS systems. As part of MobLab events held during stopovers at so-called “host centers”, and organized by each of these institutions, the bus functioned as a meeting point for local artists and residents. A variety of unexpected things occurred during the journey, and the flexibility and imaginativeness to take advantage of these is what helped the MobNauts fulfill their creative mission.

MobLab History:
I conceived MobLab in the autumn of 2003, as a laboratory in which various people could meet, and that could be creatively used by linking mobile technology to a moving bus. The executive committee was established in 2004. In February 2005, it was publicly presented for the first time at the “transmediale” media festival (MobLab’s German partner) in Berlin, and the Japanese and German MobNauts were finalized in May. From April 2005, the IAMAS MobLab project team began to develop the information system and remodel the bus. On October 19, the MobNauts-piloted bus departed on its three-week journey. MobLab reached its final station safely on November 6, and presented a report of the project at transmediale in February 2006.

MobNaut:
The MobNauts are the artists from Japan and Germany who traveled on a bus across the country. These protagonists formed the centerpiece of MobLab, as their respective projects developed with information networks and while incorporating direct experiences with different realities and individuals unique to each locations of the journey, will create a new sensibility to possible future directions for both society and urban spaces.

Tour Schedule:
The MobNauts have traveled by bus to a number of host centers (including media centers and others) across Japan, with the aim to exchange and collaborate with organizers, local artists and other individuals they met during the approximately three weeks. Under consideration of its own orientation, as well as local characteristic features, each host centers planned and carried out programs together with the MobLab Committee and the MobNauts.
