現代社会における人間の情報環境（生態、免疫、情報戦争etc.）をめぐって作品を発表してきた三上晴子は、さらにコンピュータ・サイエンスに基づいたバイオ・インフォマティクス（生態情報学）にとりくんでいる。アートラボとのプロジェクトでは＜数学（因子）と知覚（形態）のインターフェイス＞をテーマに、プログラム（数値）自体の変化を情報交換の諸関係として捉え、そこから生態情報と感覚の問題にアプローチがなされた。人間が自覚できない感覚器官のプロセスがデジタル・メディアに置き換えられ再知覚化されていくことになる。ここでは「あらゆる物体は、固体であれ、液体であれ、モレキュール（球体分子）の連鎖を変えることにより、人工的に作り出すことができる」というモレキュラー・バイオロジー理論をもとに、形態素の基本単位としてモレキュールが設定された。このコンセプトを進化させるディスカッションの過程で、ネットワークとVRに分化、展開させた2つのプロジェクト《Moleular Clinic》（第5回企画展）と《Molecular Informatics》（第6回企画展）とが生み出された。これらは、自らプログラミングを学び、メディア・アートへと移行した三上最初の作品である。（阿部一直＋四方幸子）

「キヤノン・アートラボ」は、科学と芸術の融合による新たなアート領域の創造をめざす実験的な場として1990-2001年に存在したキヤノン株式会社の文化支援プログラム。アーティストとソフトウェア・エンジニアとの約10カ月のコラボレーションによりメディアアートの新作を発表、それらの多くが国内外を巡回、アップグレードも継続的に行った。実施した展覧会は、合計17（企画展10、海外から作品を招聘するプロスペクト展5、オープン・コラボレーション展1、特別展1）。その他にカタログを始めとした出版、シンポジウムやトーク、機器サポート、資金サポートなどを行なった。

Seiko Mikami, whose artworks are related to today’ information environments (in biology, technology), is now working on exploring the world of “bio-informatics” based on computer science. In the project collaborated with ARTLAB, her theme is “the interface between mathematics (factor) and perception (morphology).” She attempts to grasps changes in the program (numerical value) as a relationship of information exchanges, to approach ecological information and the issue of senses. Human’s unconscious process of sensory organs are replaced by media to be perceived. “Every object, whether it is solid or liquid, can be created artificially by changing the structure of the molecular chain…” Based on this theory of molecular biology, she uses molecules as basic units in morphology. While this concept is being discussed, the projects have developed into two parts; one is “Molecular Clinic” (ARTLAB5) on the web, and the other is “Molecular Informatics” (ARTLAB6), the VR installation. These are the first two of Mikami’s exhibitions of computerized artworks. (Kazunao Abe + Yukiko Shikata)

Canon ARTLAB (1990-2001) was the cultural support program by Canon Inc., to produce new work of media art by the collaboration between artists and Canon’s computer engineers. ARTLAB produced totally 17 exhibitions and most of the work were further upgraded and toured worldwide. Other activities; publication, symposium and talk, equipment support and financial support.
