デジタル・メディアは、作家個人に集約されたアートやその歴史に新しい側面を導入するだろう。さまざまなエスキース、クリシェをサンプリング、リミックスし、新たに増幅させることができ、また複数の個性がそれらを共同で扱いながら連係創作するコラボレーション性を作品そのものにもたらすことになる。それでは、アートの主体を、アノニマス（無名的）な集合体やネットワーク性のうちに発想できないだろうか。ファン・ダー・カープはさまざまな素材、メディア、才能をミクストアップするプロデューサー的なアーティストであり、ミッション インヴィジブル*はアートラボの呼びかけによって日本のアーティストが匿名で結成したユニットである。会場にはアーティスト名や作品の説明を意図的に置かず、観客が自主的に聞き出すうちに、それぞれの作品のスタイルを探っていけるように設定された。作品内容は、その後に訪れるマルチメディア的総合体験を志向するものとなった。（阿部一直＋四方幸子）

「キヤノン・アートラボ」は、科学と芸術の融合による新たなアート領域の創造をめざす実験的な場として1990-2001年に存在したキヤノン株式会社の文化支援プログラム。アーティストとソフトウェア・エンジニアとの約10カ月のコラボレーションによりメディアアートの新作を発表、それらの多くが国内外を巡回、アップグレードも継続的に行った。実施した展覧会は、合計17（企画展10、海外から作品を招聘するプロスペクト展5、オープン・コラボレーション展1、特別展1）。その他にカタログを始めとした出版、シンポジウムやトーク、機器サポート、資金サポートなどを行なった。

Digital media will introduce new aspects into art and art history, in which artist-intensive presentation has been the mainstream. Various esquisses and cliches are sampled, remixed, and newly amplified, which are shared by plural personalities as database to bring about the quantity of collaboration to the works. Is it possible to conceive of the subject of art in anonymous networking or a collective quality? Artist Van der Kaap mixes up a number of materials, media, and talents as an art producer. Mission Invisible is a Japanese unit of anonymous artists encouraged to form by ARTLAB. At the exhibition, no explanation of the artists and their works is given, and the audience are rerquested to voluntary to ask questions to know further on the works. The contents of the works are oriented towards comprehensive experience of multi-media, which later becomes popular in media art. (Kazunao Abe + Yukiko Shikata)

Canon ARTLAB (1990-2001) was the cultural support program by Canon Inc., to produce new work of media art by the collaboration between artists and Canon’s computer engineers. ARTLAB produced totally 17 exhibitions and most of the work were further upgraded and toured worldwide. Other activities; publication, symposium and talk, equipment support and financial support.
