x-LAB* SUMMER PROGRAM「MOBILITY」 2018のアート展として開催。科学技術の進展によってドラスティックに変容しつつある「モビリティ」の様相—産業、社会、コミュニケーション、リアリティ—にメディアアートの創造力を導入する作品を紹介。ネットワークを介したヴァーチャルな「場」の移動を提示する徳井直生＋Qosmo、交通や環境情報など都市の生態系を可視化するオルガ・キセリョーワ。いずれもアートとサイエンスをつなぐ視点から、可能的な都市のかたちを実験的に体験させた。四方は、7月29日に開催されたxLABシンポジウム「 Reimagining Tokyo’s Mobility」のパネル・ディスカッションに参加 。

１）オルガ・キセリョーワ《DATASCAPE PARIS》（2015-2018）

《データスケープ パリ》は、2015年にパリで開催されたCOP21（国連気候変動枠組条約第21回締約国会議）に際し、CNRS（フランス国立科学研究センター）とのコラボレーションにより制作されたインタラクティブ作品である。データ可視化、モビリティ分析、未来の伏線という３つの方法を適応し、進化するデータベース（都市開発、都市と未来とモビリティの間のリンク）を介してパリという都市をリアルタイムで表出させる。本展のために「モビリティ」に関するデータが新たに追加された。

オルガ・キセリョーワ：
メディアアーティスト。ソルボンヌ大学教授（アート＆サイエンス学部長、ソルボンヌ大学高度科学委員会メンバー、アート＆サイエンス研究所設立ディレクター）。パリ在住。1965年ロシア・サンクトペテルブルク生まれ。ヴェラ・ムーヒナ国立芸術大学、エルミタージュ美術館（博士号取得）、レニングラード州立大学（物理学）で学ぶ。1990年代にカリフォルニア大学、コロンビア大学でビデオ、コンピュータアートを、パリの美術高等研究院で現代美術を専攻。2000年に米国で数理技術の開発に関わるクリエーターチームに参加。 都市、環境、データの可視化をテーマにVR、Web、ワイヤレス技術、パフォーマンス、インスタレーションなどを多様なメディアによる作品を手がける。ポンピドーセンター、グッゲンハイム美術館ビルバオ、MoMA他展覧会多数。日本では2018年「大地の芸術祭」に出展。

２）徳井直生+ Qosmo《IMAGINARY STREETSCAPE》（2018）

ストリートビューの写真が、機械学習により類似性・連続性の高い風景写真につながり、現実にない街並みが構成されていく。渋谷から瞬時によく似たNYのタイムズスクエアに移動し、右を向くとパリの街並みにつながり渋谷に戻る、などという展開により、体験者の空間感覚がゆらぎ始める。ヴァーチャルとリアル、遠と近、均質性と多様性が混濁する感覚とともに、体験者は都市の「デジタル遊歩者（ルビ：フラヌール）」となるだろう。

徳井直生：
(株)Qosmo代表取締役 / メディアアーティスト / DJ。九州大学客員准教授。東京大学工学系研究科電子工学専攻博士課程修了。工学博士。ソニーコンピュータサイエンス研究所パリ客員研究員などを経て、2009年にQosmoを設立。AIと人の共生による創造性の拡張の可能性を模索している。近作の仕事にAIを用いたブライアン・イーノのミュージックビデオの制作や、AIのDJと自分が一曲ずつかけあうDJパフォーマンス「AI DJプロジェクト」など。

Qosmo：
2009年設立。創作の過程にアルゴリズムを介在させることで、新しい気づきや視点をもたらす表現を実践する。社名 -コズモ- は「宇宙の秩序」と「純真な花」、両極端の意味を持つ単語「コスモス」に由来。近年はComputational Creativity and Beyondをモットーに、AIを用いた作品制作、アルゴリズミックデザインなどを手がける。

Venue: Miraikan - National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (7F Studio)

Two-day exhibition as a part of the "Mobility" of the xLAB 2018, along with the symposium at Miraikan. The exhibition introduced the creativity of art into the aspect of "Mobility" - industry, society, communication, and reality, which is drastically transforming due to the progress of science and technology. Nao Tokui + Qosmo dealing with the movement of virtual "places" via network and Olga Kisseleva visualizing the ecology of cities such as transportation and environmental information. Both artists experimentally presented possible form of the city by connecting art and science.
Shikata joined to the panel discussion of the symposium “Reimagining Tokyo’s Mobility” on July 29 (Miraikan 7F) .

*xLAB: an international think tank that examines architecture’s elastic boundaries through interdisciplinary collaboration, directed by Hitoshi Abe, Kengo Kuma and Atsushi Deguchi.

1) Olga Kisseleva "DATASCAPE PARIS" (2015-2018)

“DATASCAPE PARIS” is an interactive work produced by collaboration with CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) in COP 21 (the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) held in Paris in 2015. We adapt three ways: data visualization, mobility analysis, future hints, and let the city of Paris be represented in real time via an evolving database (urban development, link between city and future and mobility). New data on ‘mobility’ will be added to this exhibition.

Olga Kisseleva:
Media Artist. Born in 1965 in Saint Petersburg (Russia), she is an internationally renowned artist. Her main exhibitions include: Modern Art Museum (Paris, France), KIASMA (Helsinki, Finland), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid, Spain) La Fondation Cartier for contemporary art (Paris, France), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao, Spain), Art Institute (Chicago, USA), National Centre for Contemporary Art (Moscow), Louvre Museum (Paris), as well as Dakar Biennale (2002), Tirana Biennale (2003), Moscow Biennale (2011), Istanbul Biennial (2013), Berlin Biennale (2014), Venice Biennale (2015). Olga Kisseleva works are a part of 25 most important museum’s collections, like Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), Louis Vuitton Foundation (Paris, France), ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany) Moscow museum of modern art (Moscow, Russia), National Center For Contemporary Art (Moscow, Russia), Getty Centre (Los Angeles, CA) Museum of Modern Since 2000 Olga Kisseleva teaches contemporary art in the Sorbonne University (Paris). Since 2007 she is Head of Art&Science Institute and a Member of the High Scientific Committee of Sorbonne.

2) Nao Tokui + Qosmo "IMAGINARY STREETSCAPE"（2018）

Machine Learning connects the Google Street View pictures to landscape pictures of high similarity and continuity, and an unreal townscape is being composed: e.g. Moving instantly from Shibuya to Times Square in NY, and when facing right, it leads you to the streets of Paris, and you are finally back to Shibuya. Space sensation of an experiencing person starts fluctuating. Together with the muddled feeling of virtual and real, far and near, homogeneity and diversity, the experiencing person will become a "digital walker (Flaneur)" of the city.

Nao Tokui, PhD:
Founder & CEO, Qosmo Inc. / Media Artist / DJ. Visiting Associate Professor at Kyushu University. Born in 1976, Tokui received his PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems (EEIS), Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. After pursuing his research and creative interest as a visiting research fellow at Sony Computer Science Laboratories in Paris, founded Qosmo in 2009. He is exploring the potential expansion of creativity through the symbiosis between AI and humans. Recent works include the production of a music video of a song by Brian Eno using AI, and “AI DJ “ a live performance featuring an Artificial Intelligence DJ playing alongside a human DJ (Tokui, himself), taking turns selecting and playing one song at a time, in Japan and overseas.

Qosmo:
Established in 2009, Qosmo uses algorithms in the process of creation to reveal new forms of expression. The name “Qosmo”, derived from “cosmos”, holds meaning in two extremes, “the order of the universe” and an “ornamental flower”. Their recent work incorporates artificial intelligence and algorithmic design with the motto “Computational Creativity and Beyond”.
